BACKGROUND
The very first Rock 'n' Roll camp for girls summer camp took place in August of 2001 in Portland, Oregon and has since became an overwhelming success there, serving 300+ girls a year through various programming. As a result similar programs have emerged across the country and overseas forming together to become the Girls Rock Camp Alliance (GRCA). It was created to provide accreditation, resources, and networking for its members.
The Girls Rock Camp Alliance is a coalition known for its mission of empowering females by the means of music education and creation. Girls' Rock Camp-ATHENS hopes to achieve the same principals and core values set forth by the alliance, ultimately strengthening the mission and services of the GRCA. Being a part of the Girls Rock Camp Alliance will allow our organization to align with camps geared towards the same standards as our own, conclusively strengthening our organization's mission. GRCA'S CORE VALUES
We value the power of music as a means to create personal and social change
We value efforts that actively expand opportunities for girls and women
We value positive approaches to fighting sexism
We value integrity, honesty, and respect
We value appropriate sharing of resources, cooperation and collaboration
